“Power in defense of freedom is greater than power in behalf of tryanny and oppression.”

Occupy Philly. Remember Captain Ray Lewis, the retired former Philadelphia police officer who was arrested at Zuccotti Park this past fall? He’s been given notice by Police Commissioner Ramsey of the PPD to “cease and desist” wearing his uniform at these protests.
He’s pictured above at a recent Occupy Philly rally in which he defiantly wore his uniform and passed around handouts which include the OWS Declaration of Independence, the Police Commissioner’s letter to him, another letter to him from the President of the local Fraternal Order of Police, a news article, and Capt. Lewis’s responses to all of them. Michael Albany, who took all the photographs above, managed to get one of these handouts for me and it is now uploaded to my Scribd page here.
Also pictured above are photos from an Occupy Philly vigil held for the First Amendment.
Check out Michael’s official photography site and follow him on Tumblr!
You can view the rest of The Political Notebook’s project to gather photography, documentation and experiences from the OWS movements nationwide. Check out the Call for Submissions page and email your photos (I love photos of protest signs…) to me at torierosedeghett@gmail.com!
